Hoeing Around the Farm

Posted by Brian on Thursday, April 02, 2009 in ,
We're finishing up our first week on the farm, and after several blisters and long naps we are relieved to have the weekend upon us. So far, we have bent the young vines on the vineyard in order to 'train' them how/where to grow, hoed around the olive trees, hoed around the lavender bushes, plucked the lavender bushes, and tomorrow we will more than likely start planting in the vegetable garden. Nobody said it would be easy, but thankfully our hours arent too bad. I never realized how satisfying it would be to work on a farm... Tough, but therapeutic. Our muscles are already adjusting to it. Work aint bad tho when you get a delicious meal prepared for you by a 60 yr old italian woman... BUT, the only thing that compares to the food is the long nap afterwards.

The house we are living in is beautiful. Did I mention our front yard is an olive grove? Also, the dogs on the property have taken a liking to us and made it their responsibility to watch over our house day and night. Today, we went out for some pizza and gelato mmmm... pics to follow.

We have our weekend free and are contemplating where to go for the weekend... any suggestions?

Here are a few pics ... a couple from my birthday dinner. And as always you can click photos above to see the full album on picasa.

Also,

Jessica and I both are constantly thinking and praying for her family and her grandfather who is in the hospital in Virginia. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as well.

love you and miss you all.

I'm so proud to you all jumping in and working it out. It looks as if you are adjusting well in your first week. Jess please know that I am praying for your grandfather and family.

THE BEARS GOT CUTLER!!!! They gave up Orton, 1st round this year, 1st round next year as well as a 3rd next year, and got Cutler and a 5th round this year. Also you signed Orlando Pace. Just a heads up in the world of sports for you.

Sounds like a good adjustment from the beginning of the week to now. Glad you two are in high spirits. Also glad to hear about hard farm work and satisfaction. And that is an awesome comment from Craig. Congratulations.

The bears may have gotten Cutler, but it's baseball season and the I think you are going to be glad you are in another country when the Cubbies take the field...jk. I'm extremely jealous of the good looking food, but i will have to admit, the buffalo wing dip was not as good w/o you all here...

Things are good here, and I finally got my schedule, so we should be contacting you sooner than later about coming to visit...HOPEFULLY!

I love your blog! You are doing such a good job of updating us all about your life. The dogs there are awesome... almost as awesome as Pearl I bet. You're going to be so STRONG when you are done there... forget TRECS, I'm going to ITALY!!! xoxo miss you
